This is a gaming blog from an ordinary gamer who enjoys playing his PS3 and by no means an expert whatsoever. I look to share my experience of games I play and games to look forward to.

Sleeping Dogs - Whatever's Handy

The Whatever's Handy trophy in Sleeping Dogs has caused a lot of problems for players (me included) and I have finally achieved it along with the Platinum!

The requirement for this trophy is:
Use 10 different melee weapons to defeat enemies

Note the word enemies. Triads are obviouly enemies. However, pedestrians also become enemies if and only if they start attacking you (I have only ever seen male pedestrains attacking me). If they do not attack you and you kill them with a melee weapon, that will not count towards the trophy requirement.

A list of melee weapons are as follows
  • Baton ["Yau Ling Courts" Drug Bust ]
  • Briefcase [from male pedestrians, Central]
  • Cooking Wok [Food Vendor outside Aberdeen apartment]
  • Crowbar ["Stickup and Delivery" story mission]
  • Fish ["Club Bam Bam" story mission]
  • Grocery Bag [Pedestrians]
  • Shopping Bag [Pedestrians]
  • Kitchen Knife [Triads]
  • Knife [Triads]
  • Lock Cutter [automatically acquired during story mission "Dockyard Heist"]
  • Machete [automatically acquired after story mission "The Election"]
  • Meat Cleaver ["The Wedding" story mission]
  • Handbag [from female pedestrians]
  • Purse [from female pedestrians]
  • Tire Iron [obtainable from trunks in any vehicle]
  • Umbrella [pedestrians, during rainy weather]

Dark Knight Rises and Batman: Arkham City

Went to watch the Dark Knight Rises today and the cinema was absolutely packed and deserved to be too. It was a brilliant film and I look forward to buying the steelbook trilogy. It is a shame to see Christopher Nolan saying farewell to the Batman franchise and he has definitely left it on a high note. The next director will have tough expectations place upon him, but I feel there is still a lot of scope for development. Villains such as Riddler and Penguin have yet to make an appearance and now Robin have been introduced, how will it add to the story?

After seeing the movie, it got me back into playing Batman: Arkham City. I have already completed the story mode - but there is still a lot left in the game before the platinum trophy can be obtained (completing all the challenges and new game plus). This game is tough - it does require skills and a lot of time to get the platinum trophy.

Need for Speed

My first NFS game was Underground and has always has always been a NFS fan. My need for speed has driven me to start playing a couple of older NFS games (Undercover and Hot Pursuit). It was a good job I started with Undercover as it was a disappointment when compared to Hot Pursuit. While I like the fact Undercover had a storyline of sorts and some elements of gameplay, I preferred Hot Pursuit for the thrill of using various weapons to take out cops and racers.

Both games require quite extensive internet gameplay in order to achieve the platinum trophy (will be even more difficult for Undercover as it is an older game with fewer players). I have barely completed the story/ career mode, so won't be getting the platinum trophies any time soon.

Given NFS: The Run didn't have such great reviews and was out when some other great games were out, I decided to skip it and wait for the next instalment. The next instalment in the NFS franchise is Most Wanted (2012), I wonder whether it will be as good as the original Most Wanted that was launched back in 2005? The below is a trailer for the new Most Wanted.

Platinum Trophy - Saints Row: The Third

This is my first platinum trophy and I must say how satisfying it feels. This trophy took 4 weeks (45 hours of gameplay) to achieve. The game overall was fun and didn't pose too difficult to complete apart from one of the Cyber Blazing activities which I had to use the City Takeover (District) upgrade in order to complete.

City Takeover (District) is an upgrade which completes all City Takeover gameplay for an entire Hood automatically. It is very useful when you get stuck on a particular activity and should be used very wisely as there are only 2 of these in the entire game.

Favourite basic weapon is the 45 Shepherd - cheap yet powerful. At level 4, it fires explosive rounds, really useful in early parts of the game. Favourite advanced weapon is the Annihilator RPG. At level 4, you will be able to use the targeting system to lock onto enemies. Remember to purchase the unlimited ammo upgrade!

Metallic Gold Controller

Today, I managed to get my hands on one of these limited edition controllers. Despite some reviews saying it is ugly, the colour is definitely different and I actually quite like it. Apart from the colour, there isn’t much between this and the other ordinary controllers. Yet this will set you back £39.99 which is about £15 more than the going price for a black Dualshock 3 simply because they slapped the word “limited edition” on it.
